Lot of people had written off this guy..my hero since childhood ...Ohh i know the pain i felt the other day when i saw a News Channel devoid of anything useful showcasting "Sachin abb bohat hua " ..what a slap on everyone face sachin ...
As Dravid rightly said ...Noone..absolutely noone should now talk about Sachin's batting ..He is a King and he should be allowed to rule the way he want to be !!!!

Hmmm, getting some encouragement from you and from this (yet again) brilliant one from Robin "It really doesn't matter what others think about you, so long as you do what you feel is right and live life on your own terms. " I think I too am back now.. back to my optimism, back to take chances and risks, back to dream big ..very big !!! Back to making another attempt to achieve my NLG : Next Level of Greatness !! A fresh start !!!

Thought for while before writing this. Actually did not want to write a blog in negative mind set.Yet I believe this blog will turn me positive.

Got dinged in ISB interview call..an result totally uncalled and unexpected..but then what is more encouraging is that inspite odds, I could put my best foot forward. I strongly believe in Robin Sharma's inspirational quote of the day
"If you don't have much going wrong with your life, then you don't have much going on in your life"

Hmmm seems this one fits in well to me .... Yet I promise Robin.. Soon, there will be lot going on in my life and that too, NOT WRONG !!!!! I promise !!!

Networking and Traveling !!!

Is traveling an integral part of Networking ? Does it essentially mean that traveling a lot will leave you with more people in your network ? From the back of my mind I can think of an eminent B-School interviewer asking an aspirant portraying "Networking" as his strength the following question "While traveling you meet a lot of people ? Do you remember them and keep in touch with them or just forget them ". Lets take on this one.

In this context, my transnational journey across continents to US leaves me with mixed experiences. While I traveled to US, I met a person at Paris Airport. I hanged out for about 2 hours with the person. The person was an Indian Business man at Miami, not having passed his +2, staying in US for about 8 years, indulged in activities like assisting people to come to US (legally or illegally, left for interpretation). I met him while traveling, shared some common interests with him (btw none of the above listed). I got his cell number and kept in touch with him while being in US. I got to know people who play cricket at Orlando and some students at UCF via him and may be I will keep in touch with him via emails and orkut now. So, the answer to the above question comes out to be "Yes, I like to meet new people while I travel and I take conscious steps to reinforce the links I establish. I also remember them and keep in touch with them". So far so good.

Ok. Now the spice you are waiting for.
During my journey back to India, I met lot more interesting people (For a 14 hours flight, you better think people you meet are interesting ). On one side sits a Monk from Tibet. A person who do not know English other than THANK YOU (Nice first words to learn though). A person reading his religious books throughout the flight. An occasional eye contact and a warm smile was all the communication I had with him. So, I met this person while I traveled. Did I communicate with him ? Yes, I did. Through the best acknowledged way of communication (Eye contact and Smile). But will I keep in touch with him ? Will I remember him ? "Certainly I will remember him through this lovely blog but how do I keep in touch with him or rather even if I want, can I keep in touch with him ? What time does he get online ? Will he get my emails during his religious rituals in a temple ? I am tempted to think he will be offended if his cell phones beeps with my SMS during his prayers .....Ohhh actually he do not have cell phone too. Enough, Next.

On the other seat sat an Old Canadian women. Amazing lady. Her purpose to visit India ... she found Taj Mahal beautiful and she wanted to have her photograph in front to Taj Mahal. That’s it. Can life be better. Just follow your dreams and your wishes. And you get a Non-Stop Continental Flight to assist. She was inquisitive about India and I showered on her words of wisdom, thanks to 23 years old Indian Mind. However I now realize how less I know about her than what she knows about me. She followed the golden rule for communication. "Talk to people what they like". Perfect. That is what this lady did, kept me talking all the time and took away with her along with my warm wishes, loads of information she was interested in. Now do I remember her ? Of Course yes. She finds a place at my blog. Can I be in touch with her ? Ummmmm !!! Next.

Sitting pretty in a train (precisely now when I write this on my beautiful laptop) from New Delhi railway station to my home town, Dhuri there sits an IAF officer, a person who mans the RADAR station at IAF Barnala unit. Interesting. The person guides the pilots on fighter plans in IAF. Wow !! Powerful position. He can have mighty fighter planes flying in total opposite direction. He tells me how better his life is than a normal civilian. Lovely. A person in love with his profession. Excellent. He made my journey interesting. Also I thank him for helping me fight my Jet lag. I will remember him and I hope to keep in touch with him :).

So out of three interesting persons I met during a 28 hours ordeal to meet my loving and longing parents I hope to keep in touch with one but I will remember all three.

Thanks Blog for helping me remember people.

Sample to frame the answers

State examples where you acted as a leader ? Essentially when you sought an opportunity to lead people. [Can also be stated as an accomplishment or Uncovering Alternating solutions]

Pre pone TCS joining date.
1. Situation :
TCS joining date was postponed from 23rd June 2004 to 3rd Nov 2004. It means 4 months ideal stay at home. 19 students, selected from GNDU, were supposed to join TCS Trivandrum on 23rd June. Everyone contacted HR Delhi and current employees but could not find a way out or any explanation. Infact most employees responded that joining date is decided at much higher level and cannot be advanced. Most people forfeited to the situation and never thought of taking any action.
2. Task : Corporate HR from Mumbai was to contacted and convinced to revisit the plan and to accommodate GNDU too, along with Thapar, PEC, DU.
3. Action : I called the lady at corporate HR. She explained her restrictions and emphasized that the decision is final. After all attempts, I explained her that attrition rate of TCS at the time of joining is as high as 20-30 %. I also informed her that at this point of time I know one person who is selected and supposed to join TCS in this batch but will not join. And if I am given an opportunity I can find more people. She however said that it is very hard for her to plan of that basis until she gets a confirmation from candidate. I agreed to get the candidates contact her too. This was a desperate attempt and I did not knew much people at that time. I had nothing to loose.
After this I tried to sell this idea to my classmates some of whom were receptive of the idea. We explored people admitted in TCS from Thapar, Patiala , Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and Delhi University, Delhi. We got list of people selected in TCS and in other companies too from these colleges. Thereafter started a series of Phone calls. I along with 3 more students called up each and everyone. We convinced people not likely to join TCS to communicate and made them realize how hard it is to sit back for 4 months at home. Some readily agreed and I got them send email to this lady marking a copy to me too in the email. Others agreed to call and not send email. I followed each person’s phone call with mine.
4. Results : After a hectic of 3 days ( I remember Phone bill was huge then), I got around 12 people who had called or emailed the lady. I tried to sell her that all GNDU students can be accommodated considering drop out from other colleges too. However she agreed for not more than 5 person. Now it was up to me to give names of 5 people as I was the single point of contact with this lady in whole scenario. While doing that I simply gave names of 4 more people who accompanied me and contributed in this action. In this process, I even left out one very close friend of mine. In the end, perhaps with more vacanies she agreed for all 12 of us !!
5. Takeaway : I think "Everything is Possible" and if there is a problem there has to be a solution, you just need to believe that and find a way to accomplish that.
